TREATMENT SUMMARY

Purpose

CryoPen utilises advanced cryogenic technology to quickly, safely, and effectively eliminate benign lesions on both the face and body.

Treatment times are short, removal of a simple skin tag can take just a few minutes, with results often visible after a single session. Best of all, no aftercare is typically required.

Who is it for?

CryoPen can be used to treat almost anyone, subject to contraindications such as impaired circulation, nerve sensitivity, open wounds, or hypersensitivity to cold. A full consultation will be carried out before any procedure to assess suitability.

Please note: individuals under the age of 18 cannot be treated.

How it works

Cryosurgery works by precisely applying extreme cold to destroy unwanted tissue – a process known as cryo-necrosis. When tissue is rapidly frozen to temperatures of -87°C or lower, ice crystals form inside the cells.

These crystals rupture the cell membranes, damaging organelles and protein structures. As a result, water floods the surrounding tissue, causing blistering and disrupting the local blood supply, ultimately destroying the targeted lesion.

Results

  • Versatile treatment – suitable for lesions from 1mm to 10mm in size
  • Quick – can treat a 2mm lesion in just 10 seconds
  • Safe for use on the face and near the eyes
  • High precision – targets only the lesion with no damage to healthy skin, and no need for follow-up care
  • Minimal discomfort during treatment
  • Contact-free – no need for buds, cones, or messy applicators
  • Exceptional accuracy for optimal results

Treatment Summary

Treatment time will vary depending on the size of the lesion. The initial consultation takes around 15 minutes to review your medical history, with the procedure itself lasting between 2 and 10 minutes.

You’ll be given an aftercare sheet outlining common side effects and how to care for the treated area. It’s important to treat the site like an open wound to avoid infection or complications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cryosurgery is a medical technique used to precisely destroy unwanted tissue by applying extreme cold. This process, known as cryo-necrosis, involves rapid freezing that causes the formation of ice crystals within the targeted cells. These crystals rupture the cell membranes and damage internal structures such as organelles and protein matrices, effectively destroying the tissue.

CryoPen can be used to remove a wide range of benign skin lesions, including verrucae, skin tags, solar lentigines, pigmented spots, actinic keratoses, hemangiomas, molluscum contagiosum, plantar warts, and more.

Most areas of the body can be treated; however, extra care should be taken on sites with thin or sensitive skin, or where cosmetic appearance is important – such as the face, ears, scrotum, and sides of the fingers.

CryoPen treatments are only available to individuals aged 18 and over.

The duration of the freeze depends on the type and size of the lesion. For viral infections, small flat warts may require 5 to 10 seconds, while thicker plantar warts can take up to 45 seconds. In general, most lesions are treated in 2 to 30 seconds.

Before undergoing CryoPen treatment, it’s important to consult a medical professional if you have:

  • Impaired sensation
  • Poor circulation
  • Superficial nerves
  • Open wounds
  • Skin cancer
  • Cold sensitivity
  • Heart conditions

Yes, though skin type and treatment area should be carefully assessed before proceeding. Your practitioner will determine suitability during a pre-treatment consultation.

Yes, individuals with darker skin tones may experience permanent pigment loss. Melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, are particularly vulnerable to cold injury during cryosurgery. This should be considered before treatment.

The whole treatment was so relaxing and administered with gentleness and calm. I thoroughly recommend this experience and it won't be long before I'm back again!
